Continuum is a new Canadian television series that premiered on Showtime in May of 2012. This show is in the science fiction genre and is about a Vancouver peace officer named Kiera Cameron who works as a CPS (City Protective Services) Protector in a distant future. Kiera comes back to the year 2012 from the year 2077, fresh on the tracks of a terrorist group who have escaped to 2012 in order to escape being put to death. The world of the future in Continuum is vastly different than the world we live in today, and corporations have seized complete control and truly run every aspect of life. Liber8, the terrorist group who has killed many thousand innocent people in their quest for freedom, wishes to fight against the corporate empire to achieve their freedom. While she is back in 2012, Kiera is still in communication with Alec Sadler who is her friend and also is a tech genius. When Kiera meets the younger version of Alec in 2012, he poses two potential hypotheses about what the future will hold, and whether her arrival in 2012 will stop the eventual rise of the corporate hierarchy that was in power when she left the year 2077. Kiera will have to wait and see what happens!
Rachel Nichols shines in the lead role of Kiera Cameron. You may remember her from films like Conan the Barbarian and Star Trek. 17 year old genius (in 2012) Alec Sadler is played by Erik Knudsen who you may remember from his former role as Dale Turner on the American tv series Jericho. Actor Victor Webber plays the role of Carlos Fonnegra, a detective of the VPD. Jennifer Spence plays another VPD detective, Betty Robertson.
The members of Liber8 are played by some wonderful Canadian actors. Steven Lobo plays the role of Matthew Kellog. Roger Cross who you may know for his role as Agent Curtis Manning on the hit tv series 24 plays a Liber8 member named Travis Verta. Lexa Doig plays Sonya Valentine, another Liber8 member. Actor Tony Amendola plays Edouard Kagame, an older and wiser member of Liber8 who is no less determined than the other members of the organization. Rounding out the cast of main Liber8 members are Omari Newton playing the role of Lucas Ingram, and Luvia Petersen playing the role of Jasmine Garza.
Continuum is a television series full of riveting action and meaningful moments. Both Kiera and the members of Liber8 are equally devoted to their convictions and beliefs, and both Kiera and the members of Liber8 worry about the shape of the future world that awaits humanity as they find it in 2012. If you are a science fiction fan, you will absolutely love Continuum. The subject matter of this show makes an interesting commentary on a possible future where corporations are truly the ultimate power, and eloquently captures the struggle of messengers from the future to protect and create the future they wish to live in.
